Tournaments that count for rating 8

These are the Porto-area tournaments whose results are sent in for rating, most of them visible on the FIDE tournament list. The two summer opens in Maia and Leça da Palmeira last about a week each; the Maia one has a Masters section and a second one for players rated under 2000. The district association’s championships are rated as well, and so are the one-day rapid opens in Rio Tinto and Leça da Palmeira.

Rated play here is not only slow chess. The blitz on the Douro cruise is on the lists, as is the Leça open, which gives one of its days to blitz, and in São João da Madeira so are the international rapid open at the Torre da Oliva and the blitz tournament of the 8ª Avenida shopping centre. Entry conditions are set event by event, so read the organiser’s notice before you travel. School tournaments and the club events of Sport Musas e Benfica are on the main tournament list.
